You give yourself permission to grieve by recognizing the need for grieving. Grieving is the natural way of working through the loss of a love. Grieving is not weakness nor absence of faith. Grieving is as natural as crying when you are hurt, sleeping when you are tired or sneezing when your nose itches. It is nature's way of healing a broken heart.

A child can live with anything as long as he or she is told the truth and is allowed to share with loved ones the natural feelings people have when they are suffering.

As a parent, it's my responsibility to equip my child to do this - to grieve when grief is necessary and to realize that life is still profoundly beautiful and worth living despite the fact that we inevitably lose one another and that life ends . . .
- Sam Harris
Grief is not a disorder, a disease or a sign of weakness. It is an emotional, physical, and spiritual necessity, the price you pay for love. The only cure for grief is to grieve.

Meet Michele Benyo
Hello! I am so glad you're here! As a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist®, family educator and certified life coach, I am here to help parents recover from the grief of having hopes and dreams for their families stolen by loss. My heart is for those parents and for the grieving child whose glowing ember is inextinguishable, needing only to be cradled tenderly with essential messages and stirred with hope to become a bright flame. |
Parenting a Bereaved Sibling
When your child dies, it's difficult enough to bear your own grief, but it's even more heartbreaking to watch your living child grieve for her sibling. How can you stop the hurting? And how do you parent the child left to grow up without her beloved sibling? For the bereaved parent whose heart is twice broken, comforting and parenting your child in the face of this unspeakable new reality can seem an overwhelming challenge. Working with Michele, parents learn tools and essential messages to help you and your child move past the pain and have hope that you can experience joy beyond the loss. |
When Children Grieve®
Our first experiences of loss happen when we are children—whether a pet dies, a beloved toy is lost, a friend moves away, parents divorce, or a loved one dies or becomes critically ill. Children grieve these experiences, and what they learn about grief shapes how they will cope with later losses. Michele offers the 6-week Helping Children Deal with Loss® program, as well as customized group and individual programs, to teach parents and other caring adults how to help children grieve in healthy and helpful ways. The goal is not for children simply to survive grief, but for them to thrive with it. |
The Grief Recovery Method®
Grief is a normal and natural response to loss, yet many of us are overcome and stricken by it, not knowing how to recover from the pain. Contrary to what we may believe, busy-ness and time do not heal grief. It will not fade away on its own; nor is it something to be simply gotten over. But we can recover from grief by taking intentional action steps. Through the Grief Recovery Method®, either in a group setting or one-on-one, I help those who are ready to move beyond grief through some simple action steps to recovery. |
